The Balanced Body Studio
and Wellness Center is located in the beautiful
mountains of western Maryland next to Deep Creek
Lake, Maryland's largest fresh water lake. Deep
Creek Lake offers a wide variety of indoor and
outdoor recreational activities in every season!
Skiing, hiking, whitewater kayaking, camping,
biking or boating - our area's natural beauty is
the perfect destination for combining teacher
training with a little bit of fun and relaxation.
We offer a full range of Pilates instructor
certification programs through Balanced Body
University and taught by BBU Faculty Member and
Master Pilates Teacher, Jennifer Christophel.
Whether you are interested in teaching Mat classes,
Reformer classes or Pilates personal training
sessions on the Reformer, Trap Table, Chair and
Barrels, BBU has the resources you need to succeed.
The BBU Pilates instructor training program is
designed to create thoughtful, creative and
successful Pilates teachers. Our curriculum
emphasizes the principles underlying each exercise.
Our faculty members have a wide variety of Pilates
backgrounds from classical to contemporary to
fitness and bring their exceptional depth of
experience to the training.
Our program is designed in modules so you can take
your first course now and continue your training
next week, next month or next year. Each module
will include repertoire, lectures, practice
teaching, feedback and discussion and a practical
and written test. In order to receive a certificate
of completion for any teacher training module,
practice teaching hours, observation hours and
personal practice hours are required under the
supervision of a Comprehensively Certified or PMA
Certified Pilates Teacher.
In addition to our instructor certification
program, we offer a number of additional modules as
well as workshops.
PRE_REQUISITES:
For the success of your
program, Balanced Body requires that you take an
anatomy course of at least 12 hours. Anatomy
Courses can either be taken at the Balanced Body
Studio and Wellness Center with Jennifer herself or
through another BBU recognized program such as “
Anatomy in Clay “.
In order to be accepted to any teacher training
program Jennifer Christophel and the Balanced Body
Studio and Wellness Center, applicants must have
been a student of Pilates for no less than two
years and have taken a minimum of 10 private
lessons from Jennifer Christophel or another PMA
Certified Pilates Teacher.
All applicants will be required to sign a
non-compete form before they are admitted to any
teacher training program taught by Jennifer
Christophel and The Balanced Body Studio and
Wellness Center. The form must be signed and
returned to the Balanced Body Studio at P.O. Box
487, Deep Creek Drive, McHenry, MD before the first
training module.

Teacher
Training Modules Currently Offered:
Introduction
to Anatomy (12 hours)
Required
for any Teacher Training Module
Includes an introduction to the key elements of the
musculoskeletal system including the bones, joint
structure and function, and the primary muscles
involved in movement. Specifically geared toward
Pilates and movement teachers and includes
practical exercises on the functions of the muscles
and joints allowing you to embody the information
more effectively.
Mat I
Mat I includes an introduction to the history and
principles of Pilates, beginning and most
intermediate level exercises with modifications,
lectures on class order and programming in a group
setting, and guidelines for teaching seniors, pre-,
and post-natal classes. $399 Course Fee plus $50

Mat
II
Mat II includes the remaining intermediate and
advanced level exercises as well as essential
movement principles and training tips for advancing
clients to the higher levels. Pilates for sports
specific activities are also covered. $399 Course
Fee plus $50 Manual Fee
Reformer
I & Movement Principals
Reformer I includes an introduction to the Pilates
Reformer including set up and safety, plus
beginning exercises, program sequencing and
teaching tips for group classes. By the end of the
course you will be able to teach a beginning
Reformer class or personal training session. $499

Reformer
II
Reformer II includes intermediate exercises and
modifications designed for group and individual
instruction. Teaching successful classes and
sessions to clients at different levels of ability
is emphasized. Included are a variety of programs
designed to keep your clients inspired. $449 Course
Fee plus $50 Manual Fee
Reformer
III
Advanced Exercises & Sport Specific
Programs--Reformer III includes advanced exercises
plus modifications for sports specific activities,
tips for training the advanced client and programs
designed for specific sports. $449 Course Fee
plus $50 Manual Fee

Our Apparatus instructor training program includes:
- Exercise instruction in the complete Pilates Trapeze Table/Cadillac/Tower, Pilates Chair and Barrels and Small equipment is included
- A comprehensive manual for each piece of equipment consistent with current national standards
- Cueing, coaching, safety and teaching tips for clients at different levels of ability
- Program sequences for classes and personal training sessions
- Equipment safety and set up
