What is PILATES?

The PILATES Method, a combination of Joseph Pilates' original method and modern science and kinesiology, embraces no-impact, core conditioning exercises that may be performed safely and effectively by all levels of fitness, regardless of age is an amazing method of exercise developed to build your body into the strongest, most integrated body possible. It engages your mind to demand change in your body-building a strong core, creating a flexible, healthy spine and limbs, improving breath control, and teaching you how to use your body more efficiently, thereby ridding your body of unnecessary stress patterns. Pilates addresses the smallest personal details of your body, while asking you to perform more and more complex and challenging movements. Ultimately, Pilates will increase your strength, coordination, flexibility, mental and physical stamina and control, also improving your alignment and balance. By truly engaging your own will, you will see your body taking new shape, new energy, and a new awareness.

The Pilates Method incorporates both mat and apparatus-based work. Our studio is fully equipped with all the large Pilates Apparatus including the Cadillac/Towers, Reformers, Chairs, Barrels along with a large variety of small equipment like Balls, Bands, Circles, Rollers and more. Ideally, a Pilates client will experience all of the mat and apparatus work over the course of their study. All of the work is designed to be experienced together-each piece will reinforce the goals of the Method in a different way. Likewise, it is also recommended that you take both private and group classes, as they too will push you in different directions, and therefore improve your understanding of your body in more ways.

Whether you decide to work one-on-one in a rehabilitative setting or with a small group fitness class, our goal for you remains the same - optimal strength, flexibility and endurance, without risk of injury or building bulk muscle. With our focus on stability of the core, including pelvic and shoulder stabilization, neutral alignment and focused breathing patterns, we will help you restore the natural curves of your spine, relieve tension and build your self confidence...the end result being a balanced and aligned body that looks good, feels energized and enjoys the Freedom of Movement.
